Our 6 steps to social media success
The system we run for our own clients, written down: six steps, in order, that turn posting into engagement and engagement into customers. Free, and updated for how the platforms behave now.
Feeling like social media works for everyone but you?
Most businesses post, get a trickle of likes, and cannot point to a single sale that came from any of it. The time is real; the return is a shrug. The difference between posting and results is not talent, budget, or a viral moment — it is a system, run in the same order every week. Site Altitude has been growing clients' social media since 2013, and this guide is that system. It is written for the owner or marketing lead who wants to run it themselves, and it is everything we do when a client hands it to us instead.
The six steps, in order
Think of it as an ascent. Each step builds on the one before it, and skipping one makes everything above it more expensive.
- 01
Strategy
Three questions before anything gets posted: who is the audience, what is the one message they should remember, and what do you want them to do. Then pick the one or two platforms where that audience actually spends time and go deep there.
- 02
Content
Four repeatable pillars so the calendar is never blank: answers and education, proof, people, and offers. Short-form video first, because it earns the most organic reach on every platform — and consistency beats volume.
- 03
Engagement
Posting is half the job. The other half is the 24 hours after: reply to every comment and DM the same day, engage as your business with local pages and customers, and put a few dollars behind the posts that already proved themselves.
- 04
Re-marketing
Most people do not buy the first time they see you. Build warm audiences — recent website visitors, people who engaged, video viewers, your customer list — so you stay in front of the ones who already noticed.
- 05
Conversion advertising
Now, and only now, ask for the sale — aimed at those warm audiences. One clear call to action, a landing page or lead form built to convert, creative tests rather than budget tests, and follow-up in minutes, not days.
- 06
Tracking
Dozens of metrics exist; two decide whether this is working: what went out and what came back. UTM-tagged links and a CRM that credits the source turn "we posted" into "this post produced a customer."

If you'd rather have it run for you
The system works when someone runs it every week — the content, the replies, the audiences, the ads, the follow-up, the reporting. That can be you, or it can be a team that has done it since 2013. Either way, these are the next things to read.
